Proofreader (Full Time or Freelance)

Proofreader Responsibilities

Working with a team of dedicated and professional proofreaders, you will be responsible to:

  • Read for errors in spelling, punctuation and grammar
  • Ensure that client style as well as in-house style guidelines are followed
  • Mark up copy and designs using traditional proofreader marks to indicate to designers and programmers any changes or corrections that are needed
  • Review content, fact-check information and raise flags about questionable/inconsistent information
  • Proof print work, PowerPoint presentations and Word documents
  • Measure dimensions, spacing and positioning of page elements to verify adherence to specifications and check for accuracy
  • Check revised proofs to ensure that all corrections/changes have been made
  • Interface with project managers and graphic artists to ensure all copy is clean and formatting/designs are compliant with client brand standards and/or style guides
  • Handle a high volume of work with pressing deadlines on a daily basis
  • Manage workloads and expectations with others involved in each project

Skills & Abilities

  • Working knowledge of mutual fund industry language an asset
  • Strong proofreading skills and knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Attention to detail, good organizational skills and common sense
  • Ability to follow procedures and processes to meet deadlines and/or determine when escalation is required
  • Ability to check formatting, spacing, positioning, alignment, colour usage, etc.
  • Proficiency in writing, communication and research skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to proofread quickly and accurately under pressure
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, deadline-specific environment
  • Ability to organize project documents in an orderly, logical and complete manner
  • Fluency in French (written and verbal) an asset

Education

  • Degrees in publishing, media studies, research and journalism are preferred.

Account/Project Coordinator

Project Management Responsibilities:

Under the direction of senior team members, assist in the day-to-day operations of all client projects. Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain project schedules.
  • Coordinate, prepare, edit, traffic (and sometimes help to proofread) client-provided materials through internal process, including French.
  • Participate in project debriefings, sharing learnings to eradicate future issues.
  • Update content management system in multiple languages as required.
  • Create internal work orders (with proper specs, dimensions, required information etc.).
  • Schedule meetings, generate meeting agendas, take meeting notes and create contact/status reports, as required.

Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel and Word and Adobe Acrobat required.
  • Strong writing, documentation and typing skills.
  • Financial services experience an asset. Specifically experience with mutual fund financial statements and MRFPs.
  • Fluency in French (written and verbal) an asset.
  • Experience with Dynamic Publishing software an asset.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of the mutual fund industry language an asset
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Excel and Word and Adobe Acrobat required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong writing, documentation and typing skills.
  • Solid communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate expectations, accept responsibility of assigned projects and/or requests while communicating status of progress and issues
  • Ability to follow procedures and processes to meet deadlines and/or determine when escalation is required

Capable of working in a fast paced, dynamic environment with the ability to learn and adapt quickly and have a “roll up your sleeves and get it done” attitude

Education:

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in commerce or marketing.
