Full Stack Web Developer

Trigger is a full-service integrated agency that solves problems through creativity and technical excellence. Sometimes that might mean building a simple WordPress website, other times that might be a large, scalable, custom-built application. Most of the time, it’s somewhere in the middle.

In this role, you would be a key member in our multi-functional team of developers. Our team members believe in rolling up their sleeves and delivering superb solutions for any project that comes our way. You would be instrumental in the planning stage of projects through to final deployment and support of the product.

Triggerites are hard workers who respect deadlines but also know when it’s time to put down the problem and call an impromptu game of darts. Our office is on 10th Avenue SW and is a fun, open concept environment filled with creative people.

THE “JORB”

  • Develop web applications from planning to design, architecting, coding, refactoring, testing and deployment
  • Work across the entire stack from database (MySQL), backend (PHP) and the frontend (CSS, jQuery/JS, HTML) to server management (Linux, Apache, Nginx)
  • Develop full-stack web technologies as part of our software product development team
  • Troubleshoot issues
  • Ensure code meets standards by living and breathing current best-practices
  • Engage in QA-related activities
  • Assist with Web Hosting and deployment automation
  • Participate in daily stand-ups and collaborate with the team to accomplish sprint goals
  • Offer solid interpersonal and communication skills with excellent fluency in English
  • Communicate with Account managers and Technology Director to clarify system requirements and fine tune your deliverables to meet the expectations of the client
  • Collaborate with teammates to analyze and creatively solve technical challenges with a goal of developing solutions that are robust and scalable
  • Participate in (or conduct) code reviews

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or diploma/certificate in a relevant program
  • 5+ years experience in developing complete solutions, from beginning to end, using Object-Oriented Programming using PHP, MySQL, HTML 5, CSS, JavaScript.
  • 5+ years using PHP frameworks (specifically Drupal and WordPress)
  • Expertise in developing, debugging, and performance tuning web applications.
  • Stong comprehension of PHP with the ability to dive into any platform / framework’s core
  • Understanding of REST, AJAX and JSON and experience with building and maintaining APIs
  • Experience working with 3rd party APIs (Facebook, Twitter, Twilio, AWS, CRMs etc.)
  • Good understanding of application development methodologies and experience with agile team development
  • Experience with refactoring legacy code
  • Experience with IDE development tools, Git and version control tools (GitLab, Github, SourceTree etc.) and package management tools (e.g. Composer, Packagist, etc.)
  • Practical understanding of best SEO and accessibility practices and techniques
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent people skills with a focus on team collaboration and overall project success
  • Comfortable in the Mac OSX and Linux environments
  • All candidates must be a Canadian Permanent Resident or currently hold a valid work permit with at least 12 months remaining

Software Programmer

You would be working on an enterprise web application (for the financial industry) for the duration of the contract. This project is a .NET MVC based SaaS web application with an Angular UI.

THE JOB

This is a full-time 3-month contract (with an opportunity for extension) to work on-site in Trigger’s Calgary office.  To be considered, you must be a Canadian Permanent Resident or currently hold a valid work permit with at least 12 months remaining.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop our web application using the following technologies: SQL with some Entity Framework , .NET MVC, CSS, Angular, JS, HTML.
  • Debugging and fixing bugs
  • Ensure code meets team standards by communicating with the existing project team
  • Engage in QA-related activities
  • Participate in Agile development cycles and code reviews
  • Communicate with stakeholders to gather and refine product requirements

EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor’s Degree, diploma, or certificate in a relevant program
  • 5+ years experience in developing complete solutions, from beginning to end, using .NET MVC, SQL, HTML 5, CSS, JavaScript.

Financial Communications Group - Account Coordinator

Responsibilities:

Client Account Management

Under the direction of senior team members, assist in the day-to-day operations of all client projects:

  • Build and maintain project schedules using MS Project.
  • Schedule meetings, generate meeting agendas, take meeting notes and create contact/status reports, as required.
  • Create internal work orders (with proper specs, dimensions, required information etc.).
  • Participate in briefing projects to team members when suitable.
  • Coordinate, prepare, edit, traffic (and sometimes help to proofread) client-provided materials through internal process, including French.
  • Troubleshoot project delays or changing specifications to ensure deliverables (costs and timing) are achieved as planned, or adjusted as parameters change.
  • Participate in project debriefings, sharing learnings to eradicate future issues.
  • Update content management system in multiple languages as required.

Education:

  • Post-secondary education, preferably in commerce or marketing.

Experience:

  • Financial services, mutual fund, publishing industry process experience an asset
  • Fluency in French (written and verbal) an asset
  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel preferred
  • Expertise in Dynamic Publishing software an asset
  • Experience managing file transfers and configurations
  • Strong penmanship and typing skills

Skills & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of the mutual fund industry language an asset
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate expectations, accept responsibility of assigned projects and/or requests while communicating status of progress and issues
  • Ability to follow procedures and processes to meet deadlines and/or determine when escalation is required
  • Capable of working in a fast paced, dynamic environment with the ability to learn and adapt quickly and have a “roll up your sleeves and get it done” attitude

Working Environment:

We are a highly entrepreneurial and team orientated service company. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who will “own” the product(s), knows inherently what is required to be successful in the role and has the leadership skills to engage others within the organization to help drive our business forward.

Hours of Work:

Core hours of operation are 8:30am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday.  Additional weekends and nights will be required for operations, testing or issue management.
